'She's in a good place' – Sonia Bompastor issues update on Lucy Bronze injury recovery after Lionesses' bitter blow

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor has revealed Lucy Bronze is still some weeks away from a return after sustaining an injury while on England duty at the Euros.

Bronze revealed she played the entirety of Women's Euro 2025 with a fractured left tibia and her Chelsea boss Bompastor has now delivered an update on her recovery. Bompastor has confirmed Bronze is in good spirits, but still someway short of full fitness ahead of the start of the WSL.

Lionesses fans were shocked when Bronze revealed live on TV that she had played the tournament in Switzerland with a serious injury to her left leg. Bronze scored a crucial goal, netted her penalty in the semi-final shootout against Sweden and played a starring role in the victorious final.

WHAT BOMPASTOR SAID

Bompastor said: "It's difficult for now to put a timeframe on Lucy's return, but she's doing well. She's in a good place mentally and physically, so hopefully she will come back soon. I think she's still some weeks away from a return on the pitch."

Bronze will continue her recovery in the coming weeks, but will definitely miss the season curtain-raiser. The WSL kicks-off on Friday evening where Bronze's side, the defending champions Chelsea, take on Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
